Falmouth Golf Club took on Perranporth Golf Club in the first round of the Cornwall Team Championship last Saturday, writes Phil Jones.
This was the first time Falmouth had managed to field a side in the county's premier knockout competition for a number of years.
The format was four foursomes and a single match in the morning and then eight single matches in the afternoon.
The venue was Mullion Golf Club, which as always was in great condition which was more than could be said for the weather with rain in the morning and very strong winds throughout the day.
After the first 18 holes there was only a quarter of a point between the sides with Perranporth holding the slightest advantage - two and a half to to Falmouth's two and a quarter.
Stand out performances in the morning went to Chris Harris and Matt Fox in the Foursomes, dominating their match eight and seven over Perranporth's Tom Benney and Will Hardwick, and also Falmouth's Cam Williams as the ninth man in the singles with his three and two win over Perranporth's Trevor Johnson.
Unfortunately, the afternoon singles did not go as well for Falmouth who won only two of the eight played, with Archie Fox winning two up on the 18th and Perranporth's Marc Wilson conceding his match to Falmouth's Chris Harris on the 15th.
The final score was Perranporth Golf Club eight and half, Falmouth Golf Club four and a quarter.
Perranporth now go onto face St Austell Golf Club in the quarter finals at St Enodoc.
