Falmouth Town 3 – 2 Helston AFC
Helston fielded one of their youngest First Team squads for a number of years last Tuesday night against Falmouth Town in the Cornwall Senior Cup semi-final.
Falmouth, the current holders, were pushed all the way, and the young Blues gave the home side a scare, more so in the second half when coming from three nil down.
Steve Massey, director of Football at Helston, said after the game: "I was absolutely thrilled to bits and very, very proud of the team and their efforts.
"We literally just ran out of time, and I think another five minutes longer we probably would have got the equaliser, which I thought on our second-half performance we deserved."
Whilst Falmouth have always been Helston’s toughest local rivals, Steve finished off by saying, "It did hurt losing to the old enemy, but we [Helston] wish Falmouth all the best for the final.
"This is a most prestigious trophy in the county for me and it does hurt losing to the old enemy, but I can feel very proud and there are so many positives that we could take out of it and I hope that can carry on for the rest of the season."

Helston 0-3 Didcot Town
Helston’s bid to retain Southern League status for the 25/26 season was dealt a severe blow on Saturday as they slumped to a resounding three-nil loss against Didcot Town.
The Blues started on the front foot, swarming forward in search of a quick goal, but were victims of a quick break after three minutes, the visitors finding themselves with superior numbers in attack, and having Dylan Conlan on hand to sweep home after Dan Warre’s shot hit the post.
Blustery conditions, coupled with heavy overnight rain, did not contribute to the game becoming a spectacle by any stretch of the imagination, as both teams struggled to play any kind of flowing football and the visitors went to the half a goal to the good.
Didcot, knowing the importance of scoring a second goal quickly, were the fastest out of the blocks and doubled their lead through Zach Scott, following up on a parried shot to double their lead.
Helston’s task was made all the harder after midfielder Matt Bye was shown a straight red, much to the confusion of those in the vicinity, the second week in a row heads had been left shaking after a referee’s decision.
As the game played out, Didcot were the only real team in the contest, huffing and puffing, but not threatening the goal until the last kick of the game in the 95th minute; when the wind had the last laugh, Sam Barder’s corner aimed wide to compensate for the breeze, benefited from a wicked gust and soared past everyone into the net.
Sunday 9 March
Plympton Women 3 – 1 Helston Women
Helston Women travelled away to play League Leaders Plympton Ladies.
Helston got off to a flying start being the much stronger side, dominating possession and creating the best chances early in the game.
A rare visit from the hosts into the Helston half resulted in a goal against the run of play.
Plympton doubled their lead just before half-time.
Although remaining positive during the break, Helston were unlucky again, within one minute of the restart Plympton found the back of the net again.
Helston doubled down on their efforts and took over the game, camping themselves in Plympton’s half, creating chances and testing the home side’s keeper.
The final score was 3-1.
Helston’s goal came from a ball knocked on by Roxii Cook, headed on by Sasha Sparks for Amy Thomson to score, a powerful shot over the keeper.
Helston Women now looking forward to next week where they play against St Agnes in the County Cup semi-final to be played at Perranporth FC's ground.
