Falmouth Town 3 - Dobwalls 1.
Sam Buckley 28’, Ryan Winfield 48’, Evan Tresidder 73’, 89’.
Falmouth Town’s Peninsula League Team continued their inexorable march up the league table with this ultimately convincing win against their mid-Cornwall opponents, but Falmouth did not have it their own way, and Dobwalls put in a spirited display which belied their lowly position in the league standings.
Falmouth welcomed Ollie Perrow back from injury and named Reece Carroll at centre back, with Brad Rowe being rested.
Aaron Hicks started at centre-forward in place of the prolific Evan Tresidder as manager Jon Perrow rotated his large squad to take into account the number of games Falmouth now have to play as the season concludes.
Falmouth took charge of the game early on, and Callum Sidwell hit the bar on 15 minutes from outside the area after a period of pressure.
Falmouth were dominating the play, but Dobwalls always looked dangerous on the break.
Dobwalls held on and frustrated their hosts until the 28th minute when Town opened the scoring with a fine long-range effort from Sam Buckley.
He picked the ball up just inside the Dobwalls' half and carried it to a few yards from the edge of the area before hitting a shot which, carried by the wind, soared over the top of the Dobwalls keeper and under the crossbar to make it 1-0 to Falmouth.
It was a well-deserved goal as Buckley frequently pulled the strings in his No. 10 role, taking control of the ball and getting Falmouth playing.
Callum Sidwell was also a calming influence in the midfield, rarely giving away possession, and Tom Fisher, playing at centre-half alongside Carroll, turned in an excellent display, defending when needed and showing his midfield pedigree with his accurate forward passes to feet.
Falmouth could not add to their tally, though for the remainder of the half, and only three minutes after the restart, they conceded an unlikely equaliser.
Ryan Winfield scored the goal with Dobwalls now playing with the wind.
It was the first time Falmouth had conceded in five games.
Dobwalls’ tails were up, and they were much more in the game this half.
Falmouth were still looking dangerous going forward, though, and Jack Davies came agonisingly close to converting each of three half-chances in the first 17 minutes.
The second and third of which were from great crosses from Hicks, who put in a tireless performance up front, never letting the Dobwalls defenders settle on the ball.
Falmouth needed a result on the day, and so Perrow turned to Evan Tresidder on the 20-minute mark.
Within eight minutes, he had made the breakthrough.
Great work down the right flank by Davies ended with a deep cross to the far post, where Tresidder had ghosted in, and he guided his header past the Dobwalls keeper to give Falmouth back the lead.
Falmouth were now fairly comfortable, but Tresidder was not yet finished, and one minute from time he struck again.
Another pacy break, this time down the left from Davies, ended with a shot which was well saved, but Tresidder was on hand to sweep the loose ball into the net from just outside of the six-yard box and make it 3-1 to Falmouth Town.
The next challenge for Falmouth is a big one as they welcome Elburton Villa to Bickland Park on Monday evening at 19:45.
Elburton, who all season had been in a race to the title with the eventual champions Liskeard, handed out a convincing defeat to Falmouth at the beginning of the season, but Jon Perrow will be hoping the subsequent experience gained at this level and a strengthened squad will make the difference for the reverse fixture.
In a busy end of season, Falmouth then entertain Sticker on Wednesday night.
