Truro City recorded their first win in six league games on Boxing Day with a narrow victory over Weston-Super-Mare.

After two successive 2-2 draws, the three points will come as a welcome relief to the club as they lift themselves to 10th in the table.

However, the result was slightly fortunate for the White Tigers as they found themselves under considerable pressure throughout the 90 minutes.

They travelled with a threadbare squad of 12 players for the Boxing Day clash as their off-field financial worries, coupled with suspensions an injuries, take its toll. They were under pressure early on as Scott Walker was forced to clear off the line as Tom Brooks, standing in for the injured Tim Sandercombe, failed to claim a cross.

Another ball into the box, this time from a Dayle Grubb corner, also forced Jake Ash to head the ball clear from under the City crossbar. Truro did get more into the match as the half wore on, with Les Afful having a shot easily saved by Lyold Irish and Ed Palmer firing an effort wide.

But it was Weston who started the second half the better, with Nat Pepperell firing their best effort just wide. Truro City got their goal slightly against the run of play as an attempted clearance hit captain Ash and rebounded into the net. City defended well from then on, with Arran Pugh winning several headers at the back. The visitors could have added to their lead as well with Dan Smith and Cody Cooke both testing Irish in the home goal.
