Inevitably disappointed and frustrated with their performance in losing 37-21 to London Welsh at the Mennaye Field last week, the Cornish Pirates will aim to show their true colours when they play the second leg of this season’s RFU Championship final away on Wednesday.

A big ask awaits at the Kassam Stadium, Oxford (ko 7.45pm), but it’s in effect an 80 minutes second half to be played at what many will term as a neutral venue.

With Sam Hill away on England U20s duty, the Pirates have made one change in the backs from the side that started last week against the Dragons, with Phil Burgess moving from the back-row to centre.

Dave Ward takes the open-side berth and Rob Elloway is selected at hooker. Fresh faces on the bench are Ben Maidment, Tom Cooper and Rhodri McAtee.

Cornish Pirates: R. Cook, G. Pointer, P. Burgess, A. Suniula, D. Doherty, C. Thomas, G. Cattle (capt), K. Marriott, D. Ward, D. Ewers , I. Nimmo, L. McGlone, A. Paver, Rob Elloway, C. Rimmer.

Replacements: Ryan Storer, Mike Myerscough, Ben Maidment, Tom Kessell, Tom Cooper, M. Evans, Rhodri McAtee.
