Last weekend's golf at Mullion began with Junior Championships on Saturday morning.

Tom Julier had the best gross with a 78, winning the Captain’s Putter, with Simon Wilson second with a gross 80, beating Kyle Fraser on the back 9.   Simon Wilson triumphed in the net competition with a 63 to win by a clear eight shots from Guy Leathley, with Callum Alexander a further shot behind.

Sunday saw the Men’s Championships played over 36 holes on a fine day, despite a couple of early showers, which had the members waiting to tee off scurrying for cover by the clubhouse.

The pace was set in the morning by Jack Irwin, who was looking for his first win in the Club championships, having gone close on 2 previous occasions and missing out on last years contest when receiving a late call to play for the county in a channel league fixture.

Jack scored a fine 68 gross, his nearest competitors being Tom Julier and George Davis who both shot 73’s.  Leading the way in the net competition was Stewart Murdoch with a net 66, followed Jack Irwin and George Davis with net 67s.

Jack followed up his excellent morning round with a solid 71 in the afternoon, the only player to better this was Sam Macwilliam with a 69 which moved him up to 3rd place in the Kellaway Cup.

Tom Julier’s afternoon 72 being enough to secure second place behind Jack Irwin, winner of the Kellaway Cup and Club Champion.  In the nett competition positions were reversed with Tom Julier winning the Nicholls Cup on 135, with Jack Irwin second on 137.

Third place went to Jim Alexander who shot nett 140, beating Ray Griffiths on the back nine holes. Both players having scored nett 70’s in both rounds.
