ILLOGAN moved back to the top of the Jolly’s Combination League as they beat struggling Holman SC 4-0 at home.

The margin of victory could have been greater for the champions who struck the woodwork four times in the match.

Jake Harvey was first to go close on 14 minutes but he saw his effort cleared off the line by a defender.

Illogan then forced a succession of three corners as Holman were penned back in their own box early on. The deadlock was finally broken on 23 minutes as a shot by Dan Bowman hit the crossbar. The rebound fell kindly for Harvey, who 12 yards out, fired past a stranded keeper.

Illogan then hit the woodwork three more times in the first half, but could not find a second goal. As a result the match remained in the balance. Holman SC could have been level two minutes after the break as well, but they found Barrie Wyatt in superb perform as he produced a good stop to keep his side in front.

Two minutes later Illogan had got their second goal as Mark Uren’s long ball was flicked on, by Bowman, for Ian Cullingham to control and beat the advancing keeper.

Substitute Paul Wolstencroft then provided the third goal as his corner was half-cleared to Jason Roberts at the edge of the area and he hit a first time volley past the keeper. With three minutes left Illogan thought they had got a fourth, but Steve Proctor’s goal was disallowed for off-side.

It did not matter though as a minute later Simon Ellis was brought down in the box and he got up to score from the spot to make it 4-0. Holman SC were then denied a consolation goal as Wyatt dived full length to tip a shot around the post.

Illogan’s next game will be in the Durning Lawrence Charity Cup on Monday against Carlsberg South West Peninsula League division one west side Dobwalls.

Illogan RBL: Barrie Wyatt, Mark Uren, Tom Hogarth, Matt Callaway, Aaron Clarke, Dan Bowman (Paul Wolstencroft 67), Simon Ellis, Jason Roberts, Matt Witts (Steve Proctor 45), Ian Cullingham, Jake Harvey (Johnny Jones 81).
