IN between some turkey and the odd tipple or two, Falmouth and Penryn’s top sportsman will be busy in action over the festive period, writes Matt Dixon.

Falmouth Town entertain Godolphin in the SWPL Premier on Saturday (3pm), before preparing for the big showdown with local rivals Helston Athletic, who visit Bickland Park on Boxing Day (11am).

Town did not play at the weekend after their trip to champions Tavistock fell victim to the weather.

The Bickland Park side are in a rich vein of form, having won their last four matches, while local rivals Helston have only lost one of their last nine games.

In the Combination League, Penryn Athletic host Falmouth Town Reserves on Saturday (2.30pm), before travelling to Mullion on Boxing Day for an 11am kick off.

Falmouth visit Perranwell on Boxing Day, also kicking off at 11am.

l Falmouth and Penryn’s respective rugby teams take a break from league action but they will face off in the traditional Boxing Day game.

This year it is at the Memorial Ground and Borough will be keen to retain bragging rights after a comfortable victory over their neighbours last Christmas. Kick off is 2.30pm.

Penryn coach Ian Morgan said: “The boys have a well earned break now from the league and have the Boxing Day clash with Falmouth to look forward to, followed by the Cornwall Cup game at St Austell (on Saturday, December 30).

“Although these are also important fixtures, our next focus is Wellington away on January 6.

“We have to make sure that we are at our best on that day,” he added.
