WENDRON United boss Paul Murray said it will be an odd feeling to not be the underdogs going into a big cup game.

On Sunday his side will travel to Porthleven where they face Hayle in the Combination League Cup semi final stage with the winners to meet Ludgvan on April 5.

Currently Murray’s side are second in the league table while their cup opponents go into this weekend sitting in 12th place.

Looking ahead to Sunday’s clash, Murray told the Packet: “It’s funny because we have been the underdogs this season during our Cornwall Senior Cup run, but now the boot will be on the other foot.

“Hayle have been putting together some good results recently too, so that will make them confident going into Sunday’s match.

“They have a couple of big threats upfront who can cause problems, but we should still win even if it won’t be easy.”

Having made it to the Senior Cup quarter finals before losing on penalties to Callington Town, Murray said he believes his team have earned the chance to make a cup final.

“It is always nice to make the final of any competition,” Murray said.

“I think with the performance the guys have put in during the Senior Cup and our league matches, they deserve to be in the final.

“We’ve been one of the better sides to watch in the Combo League this season and making a showpiece final would be a good reward.”
