FRUSTRATION was the overwhelming emotion for Penryn Athletic on Saturday as they rued missed opportunities in a 3-1 defeat at home to Sticker.

Martin Duff's brace added to an opening goal from skipper Sam Kenny to hand the visitors and fellow South West Peninsula League West title contenders three points.

Luke Brabyn gave Athletic hope with a thumping strike six minutes before half time, but despite creating several more chances after the interval, the hosts could not capitalise on them.

Following their win at Dobwalls on the season's opening weekend, Athletic were forced to make three changes with Chris Symons, Ollie Moody and Dave Broglino all on holiday.

Symon Winnan, Ryan Chinn and Tyler Cooke came in and in the early exchanges Athletic looked the more settled with Kevin Lawrence seeing a shot hit the crossbar and post before bouncing into Kai Stone's hands inside the first minute.

But Dave Blizzard was forced off injured after 15 minutes and this reshape appeared to put the hosts off their stride.

Sticker used this moment to become more attacking and were helped as Athletic's ball retention in midfield disintegrated with Kenny heading the ball into bottom left hand corner of the net in the 20th minute.

Duff extended the lead 14 minutes later as he completed a superb passing move which sucked in Athletic's defence and opened up space for the midfielder to fire a shot past Winnan.

Athletic were still struggling to keep possession, but were able to muster up a chance which Brabyn took advantage off with his powerful shot being palmed by Stone, but only en-route to the net.

The hosts came out in the second half with a positive mindset, but another injury befelled them with Cooke being forced off six minutes after the break.

A second reshaping did not phase Athletic as much as the previous had, but the chances they created were not taken.

The best went to Scott Palmer in the 68th minute when Will Harding's cross from the left found him unmarked in the box, but the striker sent his volley closer to the corner flag than the goal.

Ryan Martt came close with his header well saved by Stone, but with five minutes to go the bell tolled for Athletic as Duff reacted quickest to a rebound to tap into an empty net.
