Penryn 4

This midweek win against Porthleven has strengthened Penryn’s push up the table, and was their fifth match this term under lights, writes Mike Young.

Early pressure produced Penryn’s first goal which came from Ryan Martt after only five minutes, but in a very open first half, where there could have been several goals on both sides, Ollie Moody’s goal on 32 minutes was decisive for Penryn.

The second half was much more controlled by both teams with few real openings created until substitute David Leach cracked in Penryn’s third goal on 85 minutes, and just before time Greg Hobbs went up with Port keeper James Wignell to glance a header in for the fourth.

Porthleven took five points off Penryn last season, so they will have been glad to come out on the right side of this sometimes tricky fixture.

Penryn team: Chris Symons, David Blizzard, Ollie Moody, Sean Johnson, Ben Oliver (c), Ryan Martt, Luke Brabyn, Ryan Reeve (63), Scott Palmer (63), David Broglino (63), Kevin Lawrance. Subs: Greg Hobbs (63), David Leach (63), Ryan Chinn (63).

Perranwell 1

There was a respectful one minute’s silence before kick-off in this fixture for the passing of Perranwell stalwart Fred Kemp, a former goalkeeper, father to current secretary Dave Kemp and husband to his well thought of mum Rachel.

Ex-Perranwell player and highly rated forward Luke Brabyn was made skipper for the day in this Cornwall Senior Cup first round fixture, and inside two minutes he had headed Penryn in front thanks to a cross from the ever improving Ollie Moody.

Within ten minutes of this new format, the tie was virtually decided as David Broglino headed home yet another Moody cross.

A N Other finished off a good move to give Perranwell some say in the proceedings, but Kevin Lawrance had a tap in after a spill from the Perran goalkeeper, while young sub Will Harding made it 4-1 after the break.

The scoring was completed by Greg Hobbs on 60 minutes, before Scott Palmer and Ryan Reeve came on for the last quarter.

Penryn’s next fixture, on Saturday, is at home to Bude Town.
