Porthleven 3, Falmouth Town 3

PORT forged a stirring fightback in this Dave Gardner Memorial Trophy opener on Saturday, in a game in which all six goals came in the final 25 minutes.

Town looked comfortable at 3-1 with eleven minutes to go, but Heydon Dark and recent signing Matt Drummond scored late goals to earn Alan Carey's men a point in the Gala Parc gloom.

On a day more like November than July, a goalless first half was little indication of what was to follow in a frenzied final quarter.

Marcello Jones, who replaced former Port player Jack Webber just before the hour, smashed home the first goal after 65 minutes, before Ollie Walker was brought down in the penalty area and Jordan Annear blasted in the resulting spot kick.

Dan Carne then pulled one back for the hosts with 13 minutes to go when he squeezed in a shot from a tight angle, but Town restored their two-goal cushion with a superb goal which saw a flowing move involving Tom Annear, Jones and Walker, who crossed for Jordan Annear to score his second from 12 yards out.

The hosts, roared on by their manager, pulled one back after 83 minutes when Dark scored through a crowd scene, before master poacher Drummond found space in the box to head home an equaliser three minutes from time.

In the other match in the four-team tournament, Helston were 1-0 winners at Penzance thanks to a Phil Cattran goal.
