Defender John Stones is hoping the good vibrations continue for England after a productive first full day at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

After touching down in St Petersburg on Tuesday afternoon, Gareth Southgate’s squad soon settled in at their secluded base at the Country Club ForRest Mix in Repino. The hotel has been specially kitted out with games consoles in a communal area – not to mention basketball and volleyball as well as the more traditional national-team camp pastimes of table tennis and pool.

Manchester City defender Stones, speaking in an interview with the LionsDen show on the FA’s official website ahead of Monday’s opener against Tunisia, said: “Everyone spends time with each other, which is massive. There is no kind of groups, and I think that is a special team because sometimes you get little cliques here and there.

“(But) there is none of that – everyone mixes together, everyone eats together, even with the staff, and that is going to help us in every situation we get put in. It is a good vibe and I am proud to be a part of it.”
