CAMBORNE chairman Alan Truscott has said the club's desire to play National League rugby will not change - despite the departure of several players.

Earlier this week it was confirmed five Cherry & Whites stars, David Mankee, Kieran Westlake, Alex Ducker, Shaun Buzza and Ashley Lawton, had agreed to join bitter rivals Redruth for the 2015/16 season.

New faces have been brought into the squad with Fiji international Sam Matavesi, Cornwall Under 20s player Rhys Brownfield, Mike Roach and colts trio Cameron Sayer, Kieran Whitfeld and Luke Trewhella all joining the first team.

In an open letter posted on the club's website, Truscott said it was disappointing to seem the quintet leave, but said there was no hard feelings between them and the team.

"We received confirmation from the Redruth club that five players had signed for them earlier this week," Truscott said.

"Although we were already aware that three players were leaving us about ten days ago, the decision of two of those players to leave came as a surprise and a disappointment.

"However, having spoken to both of them, I can, to a certain extent, understand their reasons and their desire to want to challenge themselves at a higher level.

"I wish them well and hope that they get the game time at National Two level that they are hoping for."

Truscott wished Joe Parma and Grant Thirlby the best of luck after the duo announced they would taking player-coach roles at Veor and St Ives respectively.

With an eye on next season, Truscott urged for those still at Town to keep on aiming for promotion.

He said: "As far as I am concerned, I hope the membership and supporters of Camborne RFC can now appreciate my continued ambition for our club to regain National League status, so that we can put an end to the haemorrhaging of our ambitious players who want to play at the highest level possible locally.

"We now need to make every effort to provide that level of rugby ourselves.

"With this in mind, Liam [Chapple] and Phil [Angove] have been busy this summer and they are putting together a very competitive senior squad for 2015/16 season."
