Falmouth police released more details today about a jailed teen who threatened to shoot and stab a teenage girl in a town park.

Alex Rudi Burgoyne, of Trevaylor Road, was committed to a Young Offender's Institution on Saturday after being caught carrying three kitchen knives near the Falmouth Cricket Club.

(BELOW) The incident took place on Dracaena playing fields

In the afternoon of Thursday, May 2, the 19-year-old had "threatened to attack a teenage girl with a knife and a gun in the Dracaena playing fields," Sergeant Phil Binnie from Falmouth Police Station said.

A call from the girl's concerned mother sparked an immediate search by officers, who located the knife-wielding teen in Lambs Lane - thanks in part to additional 999 calls from members of the public.

"The male when approached by the police was targeted by a taser trained officer and restrained, disarmed and arrested," Sgt Binnie said.

Sergeant Rich Smith and PC James Tompson found three knives secreted on Burgoyne's person, with blade lengths ranging from 3" to 7.5" in size.

The taser was not discharged.

On arresting the teen, the officers also found him to be under the influence of alcohol and therefore in breach of a 12 month drink banning order imposed in November last year.

He was charged with two counts of being in possession of a pointed or bladed article in addition to the drink banning order breach.

At Bodmin Magistrates Court on Saturday (May 4) Burgoyne pleaded guilty to all charges and was given the maximum custodial sentence available.

He was sentenced to 12 months, which was reduced to eight for his early guilty plea.

As well as the arresting officers Sgt Smith and PC Tompson, Sgt Binnie made special mention of PC Edd Clarke who helped the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in court on the day.

He also thanked the public for helping the officers bring the case to a "swift and safe conclusion."

"This incident had the potential to turn into an even more serious crime with little doubt that people would have been injured," Sgt Binnie said.

"The possession of such articles in a public place is a serious offence," he added, "with those caught likely to receive lengthy custodial sentences."
