While much of Cornwall has woken up to a light dusting of snow this morning, it is the ice on the roads that is causing problems for drivers, with burst water mains, icy hills, roads closed and drivers advised to take care. DETAILS.

  • The road to Constantine from Falmouth is particularly bad, with ice covering large patches of the already hazardous route.
  • Traffic is at a standstill on the A39 at the Chiverton Roundabout.
  • On the A30 eastbound between the Mitchell Turn Off and Summercourt there's is a report of slow traffic due to a broken down lorry.
  • In St Day on Vogue Hill there are reports of a bus stuck due to ice.
  • Ice is reported on the roads between Redruth and Porthtowan.
  • The roads around Stithians Lake are also very slippy, with cars struggling to get up the hill.
  • In Illogan Highway on Agar Road at the Barncoose traffic lights there are reports of a burst water main.
  • At Pengegon in Camborne there are reports vehicles getting stuck due to ice, and ice between Scorrier and Redruth.

 

After the cold start we can expect a largely dry and sunny day, with light winds, however it will stay cold with a maximum temperature of 6C.

Tonight a widespread frost is likely to develop, along with some isolated ice patches. Minimum Temperature -3C.

Wednesday will see another cold day, although most places staying dry with further sunshine. 

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday is for mostly dry and sunny weather with brisk northeasterly winds. Overnight frosts are likely. Temperatures should drift up a touch by Saturday.
