A more robust queuing system is to be introduced for entry onto the tall ships today after people trying to get on board without tickets caused problems.

Richard Wilcox of the Falmouth Tall Ships organisers said; ‘Thank you to everyone for their patience and understanding yesterday and we’re very pleased to hear that lots of people enjoyed their visit to, and onto, the impressive Tall Ships yesterday.

"As a team, we are proactively changing and managing our operational queuing systems for today and tomorrow so that there is a smoother process. This will include a more robust queuing system both inside the docks area before the venue gate and for the ships.

"However, regardless, visitors should be aware that the sessions at 2pm and 3pm are sold out and will be busy, with an amount of queuing. If people have tickets for these sessions, we are highlighting that they must not arrive early to the docks.

"Also, if they have tickets for those sessions, those are also now usable on the later sessions. So, if they would like to change their plans and come in the later slots when it is likely to be quieter, that will be possible.

"There are no on-the-door ticket sales for 2pm and 3pm slots, so people without tickets for those times will not be able to get entry.

"We are also stressing that, given the great weather conditions, people should bring water and sunscreen and no dogs, apart from assistance dogs, are allowed on the docks. Visitors should also be aware the venue is a working port meaning there is a lot of standing and walking and access to the ships is via steps and gangplanks.

"We have the phenomenal support of over 200 Falmouth volunteers on-the-ground and we are all so grateful for their work, as we are to all the ships, their Captains and their crews for making these visits possible."

People are being advised to allow time to get into town and find a parking spot, and also know in advance how far the walking distance is to the docks.

"It’s great that there’s so much interest but we’re asking again that everyone please pre-purchases their tickets and only comes at the allocated times on those tickets – or later times," said Mr Wilcox. "There are lots of free activities all around the town, so please come and enjoy the best of Falmouth and admire the ships from all points of the port. Thank you."
