The owner of a new fishmonger in Helston which officially opened this month says positive comments from locals have exceeded his expectations. 

Jace Bowden the owner of Kernow Fish LTD which is based in the former Tinner’s Bakery on Coinagehall Street opened earlier this month.

Jace, who is a well-respected fisherman in the restaurant industry is now bringing his expertise to Helston where he will sell a selection of fresh fish, shellfish, live lobster crab, crab packages and mussels.

Jace said: "I have been selling out early daily due to service prices and being local, it’s been crazy.

"Last Thursday I sold out completely, I then bought so much more stock and was sold out again on Friday before lunch - mental."

However, Jace, who started the business after being made redundant from a previous job said it’s been ‘crazy’. He said: “So far I have been open the past two weeks and the reviews on Facebook and local comments have exceeded my expectations.

(Image: Jace Bowden)Currently, the shop is open on Thursdays and Fridays between 9am and 4pm with hopes of further opening hours and days. Jace explains: “I hope to open on Saturdays between 9am and 1pm when the shop gets going.

“I’m closed Monday to Wednesday as I do a lot of wholesale to Michelin Star Restaurants around the country.

“All the fish is from local fishermen around Porthleven, Helford, Mylor, Newlyn, and Hayle.

“Kernow Fish LTD is about sustainable, ethical, traceable Cornish fish to help locals with the cost of living. All of our fish is based on wholesale prices, unlike retail fish mongers.”

He said: "For anyone who struggles to get into the town, I would like to deliver fresh fish to them, with no charge for delivery. 

"I am not going to charge, it's a gift back to those who need it."
