THE funeral of a young woman who lost her battle with mental health issues earlier this month will take place on Tuesday.

As reported by the Packet, Amy Jayne Morby, 23, who grew up in Ponsanooth and was living in Camborne, died on September 13.

Her friends and family spoke of her great love for Falmouth and her caring nature.

They set up a fundraising page to pay for her funeral costs, as well as potentially placing a memorial bench in a favourite place of hers.

As the time of writing the page had raised £1,300 and it has now been confirmed that her funeral will take place at Camborne Crematorium on Tuesday morning, October 2.

One of her friends, Lucy Dynes, told the Packet: “Her funeral plans to be a celebration of her life, colourful and reflective of her personality. Despite her struggle with mental health, she was always able to bring joy and humour to her friends.”

Lucy said that Amy had requested that her ashes be buried with her gran at the graveyard in Ponsanooth.

She added: “She adored her Gran, who passed away in November 2015. Amy had never really come to terms with her loss and wished to be with her all the time, so it is very fitting that she gets to be at rest with her.”

Lucy said that Amy’s family and friends wanted to thank everyone who had donated to the fund, adding that any leftover money would be donated to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary at Gweek, a place “where she found a lot of happiness and peace”, as well as to Valued Lives, a mental health charity that helped some of her closest friends.

Amy’s friends want to draw attention to the problems with Cornwall’s mental health services, saying that she did not get the help that she asked for and that more funding was needed.

Lucy said that Amy was admitted to hospital 10 times this year and “begged for help”, but said that she wasn’t given the immediate assistance that she wanted.

Her friends want to help make sure that mental health services, both in Cornwall and beyond, get a bigger chunk of funding to help people like Amy access the treatment they need.

In a statement to the Packet earlier this month, Amy’s family said: “Amy grew up in Ponsanooth and had a big place in her heart for Falmouth.

“She was a bright and beautiful little girl who grew up to become an amazing young lady.

“She volunteered at British Heart Foundation in Falmouth and she did the most amazing job caring for her gran when she became ill.

“Amy truly was a special person who meant so much to so many people.”

Another of Amy’s friends, India Bundock, set up the fundraising page, which can be found at www.gofundme.com/funeral-for-an-unexpected-death

India said that Amy would never forget to check up on those close to her when they had something important going on in their lives.

She added: “For a very small person she made sure she had a very big presence and was the life and soul of the group.

“Very bossy and cheeky, she was sure we always did what she wanted. She had a wicked sense of humour and an infectious laugh.”
