FULL details of a new festive event coming to Falmouth have been revealed – including the chance to go ice skating for £1.

Falmouth’s Festive Weekend is being planned for the weekend of December 14 and 15.

Funded and coordinated by the Town Team – the management partnership between Falmouth Town Council and Falmouth BID – with support from the Christmas Working Group, visitors to Falmouth town centre will have the chance to skate on an artificial ice rink, hop around town on a festive land train, experience snowy streets or ride the horses on a grand Victorian carousel.

With businesses getting into the spirit by arranging themed street events and local choirs, bands and street acts being lined up to perform, it is set to be a weekend not to be missed.

The weekend activities will run from midday until 6pm on Saturday, December 14, and Sunday, December 15.

There will be a colourful large Victorian carousel on The Moor, at £1 per ride, and an artificial ice rink will be installed on Church Street car park at £1 a go. Skates will be provided and there will be skate aids available for those who require them.

Church Street will be transformed into a winter wonderland and visitors can hop on the festive land train, which will run from The Moor to Events Square via Market Strand, Market Street, Church Street and Arwenack Street and cost £1 for a ride.

Cash raised from the carousel, ice rink and snow train will go back into the Christmas pot for 2020.

In High Street businesses will be supporting ‘A Christmas Gathering’ with mulled wine, a hog roast, roast chestnuts and a silent cinema.

Arwenack Street will be putting on a wartime event, with themed window displays, costumes and even a shopper ration book.

At Events Square people can warm up in the Nordic tipis complete with roaring fire. Enjoy festive music, a Christmas market or tipple at the bar. Renowned local swing band Company B will perform on the Sunday evening.

Cornwall Hospice Care has co-ordinated efforts with the Town Team so that the Santa Fun Run will take place over the Festive Weekend, on Saturday, December 14,

at 1pm.

Enjoy a traditional Christmas celebration up at Pendennis Castle – Nadelik Lowen – where there will be a fire lit in The Keep, mulled wine, carols and Father Christmas.

There will also be free entry into the Maritime Museum for any resident with a TR postcode.

Richard Wilcox, Falmouth BID, manager said: “Christmas is a special time of year in Falmouth and we are delighted to be working alongside the business and wider community to deliver another new event that will further enhance the town’s appeal.

"Recent feedback has indicated an appetite for organising a new activity to help elevate the existing Falmouth Christmas offer and so out of those discussions, Falmouth’s Festive Weekend was born. The event really has the potential to grow and develop, connect the community and encourage people to visit our special town

over the festive period.”

Richard Gates, Falmouth Town manager, said: “This new and exciting event we hope will bring people together for a vibrant weekend of music and snow ho ho! I’d like to thank the Christmas Working Group for their efforts, Falmouth Town Council and BID for their support, as well as the wide variety of volunteers who have given up their time to help us shape the Christmas programme.

"Having something new such as the Festive Weekend we feel will give people an added incentive to visit our brilliant town so do come on in and enjoy all the lovely activities being planned.”
