Four of the UK's most expensive seaside resorts are in Cornwall - and one tops the list.

The figures are according to a survey by Cheaprooms.co.uk, which compared prices across 30 popular coastal destinations.

St Ives topped the list, with Falmouth coming in third. Bude came in fourth and Newquay took the final spot in the top ten.

The results were compiled based on the average price for the cheapest available double room in a hotel or guest house during the month of August.

Only properties within walking distance of a beach and rated at least three stars were considered.

With an average rate of £124 per night, St Ives emerged as the priciest destination.

At the cheaper end of the scale, the famous seaside resort of Blackpool in Lancashire ranked as the most affordable UK destination, with an average rate of just £34 per night.

As for how Covid-19 has impacted hotel prices, across the board rates have dropped by about ten per cent on average compared to last year.

The website said that a handful of destinations had seen rates plummet significantly lower, such as in Brighton (25 per cent lower) and and Oban in Scotland (43 per cent lower).

Despite prices being down 36 per cent in Sidmouth, the town still took the spot as second most expensive seaside resort in the UK.

And in some places prices have even risen, such as in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight (up nine per cent) and Lytham St Annes in Lancashire (up 22 per cent).
