Major pasty wars have erupted in Cornwall after Greggs snuck in plans to open a shop in Truro.
The pie chain wants to open just its third branch in the county - despite it being the home of the Cornish pasty.
It opened its first store in Cornwall in 2020 just near the Devon border - but it closed after just nine months following a lack of trade.
Locals have always resisted Greggs in the county calling it 'the Devil's Spawn' - and many said it would never dare open a branch deep in the county.
Its first two shops in Cornwall are tucked away at Penngyllam Industrial Estate on the outskirts of Launceston and Cornwall Services by the A30.
But planning signs have appeared on a boarded-up former Co-op and Bristol & West bank in St Nicholas Street, Truro and is near Cornish pasty makers Rowe's and Warrens.
Greggs wants to install a new, shopfront, replace a rear window and put up a Greggs sign.
Locals have today reacted with fury.
One said: ''This is the first major battle in full on war.''
James Peacock added: ''This is an invasion on our capital.''
