USED condoms strewn across a playing field and a spate of vandalism has resulted in a plea to parents to control their children.

Stithians Parish Council made the appeal on its Facebook page this week after listing the wanton destruction wreaked across the playing field and skateboard park during the past few weeks.

It has appealed to parents to take 'appropriate action' if they know their children have been involved before the police are contacted.

It says just in the past few weeks glass has been left scattered over the skateboard park, along with obscene graffiti.

The playing fields have also been targeted with 'youths' climbing on top of the shelter, the lock on the public toilets smashed and having to be closed for repairs, as well as used condoms scattered across the playing fields.

They also say drug conversations have been overheard and there have been thefts from the village shop

In its statement the council says: "In recent week there has seen a significant increase in anti-social behaviour and wanton destruction.

Incidents include:

  • Glass smashed on Skateboard Park a number of times
  • Obscene graffiti painted on Skateboard Park.
  • Graffiti scratched & burned into playing field facilities
  • Youths climbing on top of youth shelter
  • Lock to public toilet smashed resulting in closure for repairs
  • Used condoms littering playing field
  • Drug conversations overheard
  • Distraction thefts from shop

"Stithians Parish Council is spending good money addressing many of these issues which ultimately comes from everyone's council tax payments.

"We would hope parents of offenders will take appropriate action to reduce these problems otherwise they may find the police and courts end up dealing with the offenders at even more cost to the public purse."

In January of this year the parish council was forced to close the skateboard park after receiving a number of complaints about users not adhering to social distancing rules and becoming abusive when confronted about it.

They also informed the police after drugs paraphernalia was found there.
