A barbershop in Falmouth is helping the local community of young footballers with their latest scheme.

Boslowick Barbers, who won the community voted Packet Hairdresser of the Year award in 2021, has set up a football boot bank.

The idea behind the bank is that members of the local community can trade in their old boots, and pick up a new set for free, ensuring kids can continue to enjoy playing football and parents don't have to fork out for a brand new pair.

The owner of the salon Sarrelle McCann explained the thought process behind the idea, she said: "We have got a sponsorship with Falmouth Town under 12's. We sponsor their hoodies this year.

"Speaking to their coach we were thinking about what could we do other than just sponsor them. Then we thought of the boot bank, and this has snowballed really. We will do this because the F Troop (Falmouth Town's fan group) were kind enough to come down and provide a bin for the boots.

"Parents can come in and drop off boots, but they can also pick up a pair if need be.

"It is going to be a hard year this year, bills and everything else. We just thought we could help out a little bit. We were voted from the Falmouth Packet and we thought the community was behind us for that so we wanted to give a little bit back to the community as well, keep the kids going on the pitch."

Falmouth Packet: The boot bank has already received a good response from the publicThe boot bank has already received a good response from the public

The boot bank has been a welcome innovation so far, with members of the community flocking in to donate, and pick up new boots.

All pairs of boots that are given in will be hand washed with antibacterial soaps to ensure they are ready to be worn again by new owners.

Sarrelle added that she had been amazed by the response of the community since the bank began: "The response has been fantastic, you can see on social media how much it has snowballed already, it is important to get the word out there, we are a barbershop we cut hair all day but also we are here to help the community where we can.

"If we have a space where we can do this in they are welcome to use that space."

The boot bank is set to become a permanent feature of Boslowick Barbers in Falmouth.

Those interested in donating picking up a new pair of boots can visit the shop which is open 9 am-6:30 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. As well as 8:30-12 on Saturday.
