A DOG owner whose pet injured a woman whilst running loose has been ordered to pay her over £2,000 in compensation and ordered to keep his American Bulldog under control at all times.

Guy Raymond Edwins, 63 of Glasney Road, Falmouth appeared before Truro magistrates last Friday after pleading guilty being owner in charge of dog dangerously out of control causing injury.

The full charge read that on September 3, 2021 Edwins was the owner of a four-year-old Johnson American Bulldog called Polly, which was dangerously out of control in Glasney Road, Falmouth and whilst so out of control it injured Susan Bowerbank.

Magistrates made an order that Polly be kept under proper control at all times in public place, or somewhere they have permission to be, on a lead of no more than two metres and if she's not on a lead, she must wear a muzzle.

Ensure that the dog and children are kept away from each other when eating, and/or the dog is placed in an area where it cannot make contact with children unless being supervised by a responsible adult.

No-one under the age of 16 years should be left alone with, or exercise, the dog unless in company with a fit and responsible person over the age of 16 years.

The property where the dog lives has to have the access made secure to prevent its escape from the premises; and until then the dog should stay within the property/building or be suitably tethered to prevent its escape.

Ensure that the dog is made secure by either placing it in a cage or locked in another area of the house prior to opening the door to delivery people or guests.

Anybody having control of the dog whether for dog walking or general care shall be made aware of and comply with the conditions imposed by this order.

If he decides to no longer own or keep the dog, the new owner or keeper should be made aware of this order and the conditions imposed.

He will notify the police or local authority, of a new owner / keeper within five days of transfer of ownership/keeper of the dog. If any of these orders are not complied with then Polly must be destroyed.
