There was standing room only at the weekend in a special service of thanksgiving for the safe return of two Cadgwith fishermen whose boat was lost at sea.

People from Cadgwith and the surrounding area came together at St Mary’s Church to give thanks over the safety of Brett Jose and Callum Hardwick, after they were rescued by the Lizard Lifeboat two weeks earlier.

The pair were found on their life raft, after Brett’s fishing vessel Crig-A-Tana sank suddenly six miles off Lizard Point.

Prayers of thanks were said not only for their safe return, but also for the Lizard Lifeboat crew’s selfless courage and commitment, the supportive community in and around Cadgwith, for prayers being answered and for the Crowdfunder appeal helping to support Brett and Callum, which has so far raised around £12,500.

Donations can still be made via www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/mfv-crig-a-tana-crew-relief-fund

The service, led by Rev Deirdre Mackrill, included sea-themed hymns, poems and Bible reading, and ended with a rousing rendition of Cornwall My Home.

A collection was taken in aid of the Fishermen’s Mission, amounting to £63.
