A new veterinary practice building could be opening in Helston if the go-ahead is given.

Plans have gone in to Cornwall Council asking for the change of use of a building at Helston Business Park, off Clodgey Lane.

The application is for Unit F6 at Plot F on the site, which already includes companies such as Screwfix and Bradfords Building Supplies.

It proposes change of use of the building to use as a large animal veterinary practice, with external modifications and external plant area for VRF (variable refrigerant flow, for fridges) and air conditioning condensers.

Modifications would include adding extra windows for natural lighting.

Details of the practice behind the application are not stated on Cornwall Council’s planning portal, so it is unclear at this time whether it would see a new firm moving into the town or the extension of facilities for an existing practice.

The application form indicates plans for one full time member of staff and eight part-time employees to be based there – the equivalent of five full time jobs.

The practice would be open 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 2pm on Saturdays.

Helston Town Council has supported the application, recommending approval.

The plans can be viewed on the Cornwall Council’s website, via the planning portal, under the reference PA23/00203.

The MJL Group applied for planning permission in December 2021 to build ten commercial units in two new buildings, together with an internal service road, to create the 'block F' at the business park, which was subsequently granted.

Site owner Matt Lugg, managing director of MJL Cornwall Ltd, has developed a number of units on the site, which has seen big name national firms move into the town.
