People who live and work in Helston will get access to new super high-speed broadband in the future, as part of a £50 million plan to provide faster internet throughout the Duchy.

Cornish-based broadband provider Wildanet has revealed that it will be working to install full-fibre internet available to 6,000 premises in Helston, which will see upload speeds as fast as download speeds.

The broadband provider, which is located in Liskeard, was formed in 2017 and is investing £50 million to build a brand new network to connect many areas of the Duchy that are still without access to fast reliable internet and creating new jobs in the process.

At Helston's Town Council meeting this month, Amanda Pennington, community liaison manager at Wildanet, spoke to councillors about the upcoming installation works.

She said: “Since Covid, the internet is being used a lot more.

“This broadband will be better for communications programmes such as Teams and Zoom, where download and upload speeds will become the same.”

Amanda also said how the company will make people aware that work will be taking place in areas near their homes and businesses.

"We will be putting leaflets through the door of the premises where work is due to take place. We want to notify members of the public what is happening and when,” she added.

Helston Town Council will publish names and dates of installation works taking place across Cornwall each week on its Facebook page. Below is a copy of this week's work schedule.

To engage with the public regarding the new broadband installation, Wildanet will host community and engagement events to allow people to come forward to ask questions, see the latest equipment, and discuss the future of broadband.

Cllr Mike Thomas supported the idea, saying: “It’s fantastic and great news for our town. It will improve our digital connectivity to live and work in the best possible way.”
