One of Cornwall’s leading community food banks has revealed it is facing a huge increase in demand for meals to support people in Camborne, Pool and Redruth.

The announcement comes shortly after Transformation CPR's work - and in particular its Christmas hamper scheme - was featured on a recent edition of the BBC Two programme: Simon Reeve’s Return to Cornwall.

Anna Corbel, chief executive said: “Over Christmas, we distributed 273 hampers to the families in greater need and gave out 1,100 wrapped Christmas gifts for children and young people.

“We thought we had reached a peak during 2022 but our services are in even greater demand than ever.

“During 2022 we provided 11,11,3000 meals every month.

"Since the start of 2023, this has risen by almost 32% to almost 15,000 every month. It’s a reflection of the cost-of-living crisis facing everyone but especially those on the lowest incomes.”

Anna added: “The glimmer of good news is that we have the capacity to deliver the necessary support thanks to the amazing generosity of our supporters and the tireless work of our core staff, trustees and a 70-strong team of volunteers.

“Without their combined efforts none of this would be possible.”

The food scheme is collected by the team who donate surplus food from supermarkets and local producers. This is then distributed through the food bank and winder community groups.

In addition to distributing food, Transformation CPR also delivers financial hardship support with services that include signposting to budgeting, debt and home energy advice, and in some cases even providing crisis funding.

The stall also works closely with a network of referral agencies to ensure that no one misses out and that support is available to all who are vulnerable or on the edge of society, helping them overcome difficult circumstances and move toward a better future for both them and their families.

“Above all, Transformation CPR is a place of welcome for all,” emphasised Anna. “No one is ever turned away and that will continue; however, many may require our help.”
