Toilets in a popular Falmouth park are to be closed early over the summer following another year of persistent vandalism.

Falmouth Town Council, which operate the toilets in Kimberley Park in Kimberley Park Road and elsewhere in the town, say they are being forced to close the toilets early as the vandalism shows no sign of abating.

In July 2022, following persistent vandalism and graffiti issues that were costing upwards of £400 a week to rectify, a decision was made to close the public toilets in Kimberley Park Gardens at 4pm, as a preventative measure.

The council says since then, there has been little evidence to support returning the toilets to their original closing time of 8pm.

An increase in anti-social behaviour in Falmouth over the last 12 months means that vandalism and graffiti are now becoming more of an issue for all the council’s public conveniences, not just those in Kimberley Park Gardens.

The council says limiting the opening hours of public conveniences is not something it wants to do but the needs of residents and visitors must be balanced against the cost of maintaining these facilities.

It says it continues to review the opening times of all Falmouth’s public toilets on a regular basis and will be replacing any missing or out of date signage with details of summer opening times over the next week, in preparation for a busy season.

In the meantime, until further notice, all Falmouth’s public toilets will adhere to the following summer opening times: 8:30am – 9pm, except for the toilets at Kimberley Park Gardens which will close at 4pm. Town events over the summer may see later closing schedules, as required.
