DRIVERS in Helston have shared their frustrations on social media after getting caught up in heavy congestion in the town today (Tuesday, September 5)

Just before lunchtime on Tuesday, commuters in and around Helston have reportedly experienced long delays and queues across the town - particularly in the area between Helston Community Hospital and the turn-off towards the waste and recycling centre just off Clodgey Lane.

Drivers have warned others of the “absolute chaos” taking place in Helston on Facebook.

One member of the public said: “Roadworks digging up roundabout between Sainsbury's and Culdrose; traffic lights on roundabout, avoid at all costs.” Whilst another commented: “Traffic heading down Meneage Street now and Furry Hill. Absolutely chaos! Why carry out this work during daytime is beyond me.”

The congestion build-up is down to a water leak on the Sainsbury’s roundabout, with South West Water in attendance. A spokesperson from South West Water said: “There is a leak on the roundabout that we are attending to.

“We are currently hoping to have the works completed on the 7th, but this may be extended.”

This news comes as Cornwall Council announced yesterday that four roads in Helston will be closed off during the day to allow essential water maintenance work to be carried out.

Church Lane, Church Street, Godolphin Road and Penhallaz Road will be closed off over two days towards the end of September.
