Tributes have been paid to a “true ‘Ryner” and long standing member of Pendennis Brass who has died after a long battle with cancer.

Tammy Thomas died on November 28 peacefully at her home in Penryn surrounded by her loved ones after a five year battle with cancer. Her funeral will take place on December 13.

Her daughter Hannah posted on Penryn Legends Facebook page informing everybody that her mum had died.

“Hi all this is Hannah,” she posted. “Just to let you know mum passed in the early hours of this morning. She was at home and passed in her sleep.”

Her post resulted in nearly 400 comments of condolence from people who knew her and were saddened by her death.

Typical of the many comments Graham Griffiths said: “So sorry to hear this. Tammy's positivity throughout being ill was incredible to read, she kept fighting it, and although reading through social media I read it that she still had a smile on her face through a lot of it.”

While Patricia Harley said: “I'm so very sorry Hannah. Your mum was a true inspiration and a very lovely lady.”

Also sharing the news of her death was Pendennis Brass who announced “with great sadness” the passing of their “incredible” first horn player Tammy Thomas.

“Tammy has been a long standing member of the band for many years, holding many roles within her time at Pendennis Brass,” they said in a statement posted on their Facebook page.

“Everyone who's been lucky enough to have met Tammy and had her in their lives will tell you how much of a determined, strong, beautiful inside and outside and inspirational lady she was.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the family at such an emotional time.”

Many bands responded to the post as well as members of Pendennis Brass.

Helston Town Band replied: “A lovely lady who was so kind and courageous. Sending our condolences to you all at this very sad time.”

Pendeen Silver Band said: “Tammy truly was an amazing lady. Our love and thoughts are with Dave and the family and all of our friends at Pendennis Band.

Tammy’s funeral will be on December 13 at 11am in the Penmount crematorium.

Everyone is welcome and people are being urged to wear casual bottoms and bright colours/stripes or band jackets The funeral will be followed by a wake time and where still to be confirmed.
