A man in his eighties has died following a collision between two cars in Falmouth yesterday.
Emergency services were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a grey Toyota Yaris and a silver BMW 520D on Bickland Water Road, Falmouth, at around 11.45am on Monday, May 20.
The Toyota driver, a man in his 80s from Falmouth, was treated at the scene by paramedics but was pronounced deceased at hospital. His next-of kin have been informed.
No other injuries were reported.
Local road closures were put in place while officers conducted an examination of the scene, and the vehicles were recovered. The road was reopened at around 6.30pm.
The road has been closed both ways between the junctions of Mongleath Road and Falmouth Town FC Social Club.
There was 'heavy traffic' in the area, with particular congestion on the approach to Falmouth Rugby Club through Penmere and Tregenver Road, as well as on Dracaena Avenue, as a result of motorists finding an alternative route through the town.
Yesterday was a bad day on the roads in Cornwall with a motorcyclist also dying after a collision between a car and a motorcycle near Ladock yesterday.
Emergency services were called to an RTA on the B3275 yesterday morning involving a car and a motorcycle at around 11.47am.
Devon and Cornwall Police say as a result of the accident a 57-year-old motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries
The B3275 was closed whilst the scene was examined by specialist forensic collision investigators.
