Cornwall will take on its starring role alongside Martin Clunes as the grumpy Doc Martin returns to screens for the final time.

The tenth and last series of the hit show gets underway on Wednesday (September 7) on ITV at 9pm.

Clunes, who shot to fame as Gary in BBC sitcom Men Behaving Badly fame, resumes his role as Dr Martin Ellingham, the GP with a brusque bedside manner and a phobia of blood.

Final series of Doc Martin

The popular drama, set in the idyllic hamlet of Portwenn in Cornwall - actually Port Isaac - will take up the story after a controversial end to the last run.

The Doc decided, after having his medical career scrutinised by the General Medical Council because of his blood phobia, that he would resign from being Portwenn’s GP.

Eight new episodes will see the Doc making efforts to overcome his phobia and beginning to question whether he made the right decision about resigning.

Elsewhere, viewers are set to meet a new arrival in the Martin household in the shape of baby daughter, Mary Elizabeth, a sister for four-year-old James Henry.
