Fears for travellers concerning airline strikes and flight cancellations this summer have led to a marked interest in staycations in Cornwall, a holiday park operator has claimed.

Data from Parkdean Resorts, which operates 66 parks across the UK, including eight in Cornwall, has shown a number of parks see an increase in Google searches over the last three months.

They link this to a number of factors, mainly due to the security staff strikes at Heathrow Airport that are planned for the summer alongside an ongoing strike by the Spanish Airline Pilots Union, and anticipated industrial action at Portuguese airports.

The data from Parkdean Resorts suggests that the Crantock Beach Holiday Park has made the most interest, with a 174% increase in national search in the last three months on Google.

Crantock Beach Holiday Park has also been well-received on Tripadvisor, with a score of 4.5/5 from 574 reviews.

What Cornwall resorts have seen the most interest?

Aside from Crantock Beach, Lizard Point has also seen a marked increase in Google searches, with it going up 124% in the last three months.

After that, you have Looe Bay (up 81%), Newquay (up 49%) and Holywell Bay (also up 49%).

Nationally, Cornwall as a whole is seen as the most popular area in the South West for people looking for a staycation based on Parkdean Resorts sales data, with Devon and Dorset being in second and third respectively.

Xavier Vallee, Chief Customer Officer, Parkdean Resorts said: “The stories about airport strikes are the last thing any family wants to hear before their summer holiday – people want control, not a holiday that might be cancelled at the last minute, so it’s no surprise that they’re looking for UK breaks.

"The British weather is amazing at the moment, and the good news for people in the South West is that there are still some great deals available, but they won’t be around forever!”
